A couple of weeks ago, I went to the local high school and did my observation for getting my substitute teacher certification.  The assistantprincipal lined up 4 classes for me to attend.  Two of the classes were honors classes and the other two were “regular ed.”.

During my day there, I was absolutely tickled at how polite and respectful the kids were.  At one point, I got lost in the building and the students were lovely in helping me find my way around.

Last Monday, we went to the boy’s JV football game.  The principal was taking money at the front gate.  Since we were early, I took a moment to brag to the principal about how respectful and polite his students were.newsimpson

The principal told us that the policy of the high school was that if all the kids were treated with respect that they would treat the adults and each other in kind.

I hear people complain all the time about how rude kids are today.  Perhaps if we treat children with respect and politeness, they will respond by treating adults the same way.

At least that seems to be the case in good ol’ Summersville, WV.
