THE RED PATH…

sunsetHELLO GENTLE READERS,

LaVerna and I spent Thanksgiving day with friends, many of whom are Native Americans. Now Laverna is part Cherokee, and I, as far as I know, am plain ol’ American mongrel. However, I couldn’t help but wonder if many of my Native American friends resent the Thanksgiving Holiday. The original Thanksgiving was indeed giving thanks to the Indians for keeping the European settlers from starving that first year. If the Indians had known what the future held, would they have helped these strange, new people? Probably.

I was treated with respect, love and dignity. I was even “Smudged” with sage smoke as though I too was walking the “Red Path”.

Maybe I will!
